Powermore commissions 5 MW captive solar plant for textile cluster in Surat

A cluster of seven mid-sized textile units in Surat have switched to a shared captive solar plant under a long-term PPA, cutting their per-unit energy cost by an estimated 42%.

Surat, Gujarat — A 5 MW captive solar plant developed by Powermore has begun supplying power to a cluster of seven mid-sized textile units, marking one of the first multi-occupant PPA structures in the state's textile belt.

The plant, situated on 18 acres of contiguous industrial land leased to Powermore for a 25-year tenure, will offset roughly 6.8 million kWh of grid power annually. At Surat's prevailing GEB HT-I industrial tariff of ₹8.40 per unit, the cluster expects to save approximately ₹2.4 crore in year one alone, with savings escalating as grid tariffs rise.

Each unit in the cluster has signed a tripartite Power Purchase Agreement with Powermore at a starting tariff of ₹4.85 per unit, locked with a 2% annual escalation clause. The arrangement preserves capex on the unit's balance sheets and delivers RECs that align with the cluster's emerging SEBI BRSR disclosure obligations.

Powermore handled engineering, procurement, statutory clearances under Gujarat's captive consumer regulations, and a full 25-year O&M wrap. The plant uses TOPCon glass-glass modules from Avaada and string inverters from Sungrow, with monitoring integrated to each unit's plant manager dashboard.

Cluster-based PPAs are seeing growing traction across Surat, Tirupur, and Ludhiana — geographies where individual mid-sized manufacturers lack the roof space or load to justify standalone solar but together meet the 1 MW captive threshold.

Our power bill used to be the second-largest line item after raw cotton. With this PPA, we've fixed that line item for two decades.
